About Telos Partners

In pursuit of purpose, passions, and legacy.

In Aristotelian philosophy, telos is the idea that everything has an ultimate purpose — a reason it exists beyond its immediate function. We believe the same is true of wealth.

Most financial plans are built around growing a number. We build ours around understanding what that number is in service of, and then designing the most direct and intelligent path to get there.

Whether your aim is generational security, early retirement, a meaningful philanthropic legacy, a specific milestone, or simply the freedom to live on your own terms, that purpose is the foundation of everything we build together.
Our Standard

Fiduciary responsibility.

Telos is an SEC-registered investment advisor and independent fiduciary, legally bound to act in your best interest. This standard is not universal in the financial advisory industry. It is the foundation of every client relationship we build.

Fee-only, no commissions, no third party compensation

No proprietary products, not limited by institutional inventory

No financial stake in any recommendation we make

Our Advisors

Institutional experience, genuinely personal.

When you work with Telos, you work directly with the founding partners. The advisors who design your strategy are the same ones managing your portfolio, coordinating with your accountant and attorney, and picking up the phone when you call.
Both founding partners hold the CFA designation and come from institutional investment backgrounds. Combined, they bring more than three decades of experience managing capital at scale across hedge funds, buy- and sell-side investment banking, and family offices.

Peter Hughes, CFA, CPWA®

Founding Partner

With nearly two decades of experience across institutional finance, Peter brings a multi-disciplinary perspective to his work at Telos. His background spans several areas of finance, including structured credit, investment banking, hedge fund investing, and early-stage venture capital. He began his career at Credit Suisse and later held investment roles at Napier Park Global Capital and Phoenix Investment Adviser. He also served as a Principal at Charge Ventures, a pre-seed venture fund, and has been an active angel investor since 2015.

Peter works with founders, executives, and high-net-worth families on investment management, financial planning, and exit strategy — with particular focus on liquidity events, concentrated positions, and the transition from operator to investor. He is also a trained performance and executive coach, with certifications from The NLP Center of New York, Co-Active Training Institute, and Coaches Rising.

Nick Stecklein, CFP®, EA

Tax Advisor

Nick brings a comprehensive, planning-first perspective to his work at Telos, shaped by six years as a financial advisor helping clients navigate every aspect of their financial lives. While working in financial planning, he started a tax business on the side to better support existing clients and quickly recognized a major disconnect between traditional financial planning and tax strategy.

Nick’s work is centered on helping clients make thoughtful, tax-efficient decisions that align with their broader financial goals, not just their annual tax return. Having worked as an advisor himself, he also brings a unique ability to collaborate effectively with financial advisors and helps ensure clients benefit from stronger coordination between tax and financial planning.

Focus Areas
Tax planning, tax preparation, equity compensation, multi-state tax considerations, trust taxation
Outside of Work
Spending time with family, hiking, running, and reading.
How We Work

Our principles, outlined.

Independent and Unconflicted

We are not constrained by institutional inventory or proprietary platforms, and carry no financial stake in any recommendation we make.

Person Before Portfolio

Every client relationship begins with understanding: who you are, what you value, and what you are building toward.

Integrated by Design

Tax strategy, investment management, estate planning, and giving strategy are each considered as parts of the whole.

Proactive by Nature

We look ahead, identifying opportunities, anticipating changes, and keeping your plan current with responsive, continuous planning.
